On Saturday at the last minute I decided to go to The Sheephaven Bay in Camden to watch the Rochdale vs York title decider. I remembered that York City South meet there for televised games and was amazed to see around 200-300 York fans packed in for the game.

York needed a draw or better to secure promotion back to the Football League. Rochdale needed to win. After 90 tense minutes the game ended in spectacular, chaotic fashion:

I had a brilliant weekend after the game calling my brother and friends to talk about it, catching up on the amazing, impartial (ha!) BBC Radio York commentary (do give the 60 sec commentary clip on this page a listen, it’s worth the license fee alone). I also enjoyed winning goal-scorer Josh Stone’s interview on the Monday after where he was clearly still drunk.

I know it’s trite to say - there’s a lot of shit out there but for a short while it went away. Days like this are why I still love football. Thanks City!
